While looking for a new chapter post COVID, I allowed myself to consider many opportunities - including a journey OFF the 105 square mile island I call home. Initially, it was an invitation to join the Peace Corps in Fiji that got me thinking about the other side of the planet. When I learned that I would not be medically cleared, I was momentarily dismayed . As I had personally cleared myself for a two year volunteer stint, I made a quick pivot and a new plan.
My "base camp" will be in Eastern Thailand, at a friend from Nantucket's (thanks, Chin!) resort in a small fishing village in Trat. My visa requires that I leave Thailand every 60 days, so there we have it! It is wonderful to be connecting with people who are sharing their knowledge and experience in Southeast Asia while I plan this first in a lifetime travel experience.
It would not be possible to consider this venture without the invaluable contribution of my son, Jerico. He returned to Nantucket mid-covid, has a job in town government he enjoys and will care for my home and my two boyfriends (I mean cats) Simon and Loki.
